Civil Technology deals with planning, designing, execution, operation, and maintenance of civil engineering projects (buildings, dams, railways, airports, roads, etc.). Civil Technology is considered as the mother of all technologies as it is the process of directing and controlling natural resources for the use and benefit of humanity through the construction of various projects.
Civil Technology department of GCT Swat is a well-established department comprising of well-furnished classrooms and well-equipped laboratories, currently offering three years Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) since 1990.
The curriculum emphasizes subjects of Civil Drafting, Surveying, Building Construction, Quantity Surveying, structures, irrigation, Soil Mechanics, transportation engineering, public health, environmental engineering and hydraulics. These courses include both theoretical and practical work.
In addition to course work, the final year students required to work on a project under the guidance of faculty members. Study tours and extra lectures are also arranged during the session for the benefit of the students.
Laboratories
The following well-equipped laboratories and services support the department:
In construction industry civil engineers and technologists play vital role. The main scope of civil engineering technology is planning, designing, estimating, supervising, construction, construction management, execution and maintenance of structures like buildings, roads, bridges, dams, railways etc.
One who designs and maintains works of public utility is known as civil engineer. Civil engineer should have qualities like scientific attitude, imaginative and intuitive approach. He should have good analysis and decision power. He should be able to solve engineering problems, by using mathematical modelling, scientific principles and laboratory techniques using computer and information technology. He should be able to use operation research techniques for solution of management problems.
Civil technology is one of the evergreen engineering technology. Civil diploma holders can continue further engineering studies in undergraduate level (BE or B-tech Civil) or get employment as junior engineers, sub engineers, associate engineers, technicians, technologists, supervisors, superintendents, foremen, workshop technicians, draftsman in various government and private departments, like Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Communication & Works (C & W), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), KP Irrigation, PEDO, Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Railways, National Highway Authority (NHA), Development Authority, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Public Health Engineering Department, National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), Descon Engineering Limited and many more.
To impart high-quality Civil Technology education through modern teaching and practical work for producing individuals that can face civil engineering related problems with professional attitude for creating innovative, safe, economical, feasible and sustainable solutions.
